CryptoBabies Integrates Chainlink VRF to Randomly Determine DNA
We are pleased to announce that CryptoBabies has integrated Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF) to help securely mint CryptoBabies NFTs. Chainlink VRF provides CryptoBabies with a verifiable source of on-chain randomness directly on Ethereum & Polygon, which is used to determine each CryptoBaby’s DNA in a tamper-proof, low-cost, and provably unbiased manner.
Each CryptoBaby has a unique 32-digit DNA sequence generated from a random number provided by Chainlink VRF. DNA sequences decide each baby’s sex, color, hairstyle, and various body parts. Some babies are common, while others are Rare, Epic, Legendary, or Godlike. With more than 320 million possible combinations, it’s important that baby creation is fair and transparent. When combined with limited supply, this leads to true digital scarcity.
With Chainlink VRF, the DNA of each CryptoBaby is randomly generated through a fully auditable, high-integrity process, leading to a transparent and fair experience for everyone. As CryptoBabies continues to develop features, our integration with Chainlink will continue to expand, such as leveraging the widely-used Chainlink Price Feeds to access a variety of real-time, tamper-proof asset prices.
Securing the CryptoBabies Ecosystem with Help From Chainlink VRF
CryptoBabies uses Chainlink VRF to create provably random babies. Chainlink VRF works by combining block data that is still unknown when the request is made with the oracle node’s pre-committed private key to generate both a random number and a cryptographic proof. The CryptoBabies smart contract will only accept the random number input if it has a valid cryptographic proof, and the cryptographic proof can only be generated if the VRF process is tamper-proof. This helps provide users with automated and publicly verifiable proof directly on-chain that using Chainlink VRF for randomness is provably fair and cannot be tampered with or predicted by the oracle, outside entities, or the CryptoBabies team.
Future Integration With the Chainlink Network
We selected Chainlink as our oracle solution because it’s the most widely used, time-tested, and fully functional oracle infrastructure. Chainlink has a long track record of servicing decentralized applications with a wide range of data that helps secure tens of billions of dollars in user funds.
Going forward, CryptoBabies plans to:
- Use Chainlink Data Feeds to interact with real-world data on-chain.
- Continue using Chainlink VRF in order to help mint provably fair and unpredictable babies.
- Use Chainlink Price Feeds to help power further upcoming game features.
As we continue to develop new use cases with CryptoBabies, Chainlink oracles will provide the secure data feeds that will enable us to create complex decentralized financial instruments. Additionally, accurate price feed data will be essential in giving us a reliable way to preview data to users before they make transactions. We will continue to research new ways of powering our smart contracts with secure inputs and outputs using the Chainlink Network.
